'Dark Clouds In A Perfect Sky' will touch those who can appreciate majestic, goth-tinged metal with a strong emphasis on melody. Production-wise, this album is striking. Mouse clicker Alexander Krull found some remarkable tones and has managed to provide the music of Elis with a warm yet undeniably heavy tone. Keyboard accompaniments give the tracks a full feeling while Sabine Duenser has a voice that is nothing less than haunting on pieces like 'Lost Soul' and 'Are You Missing Me.' For those metalheads that are less in to the romantic side of metal, material like 'Perfect Love' might be a bit too commercial for your tastes. There is a lot of emphasis on melody in the music of Elis, but they maintain a dark vibe on the doomy 'Heart In Chains' that would please those into groups like Orphanage. Duenser's voice is positively angelic on the despair filled 'Black Angel', with the group's substantially thundering riffs looming in the background like those same dark clouds spoken of in the record's title. Although you definitely need to have a taste for music of this nature, once its dark vibe captures your attention, there's no escape from the stormy embrace of the music of Elis.
