  • 'Star Tales' is packed full of great symphonic, classically influenced metal as Dol Ammad manage to capture a sound that is at once majestic and mighty. The attention to orchestration here is considerable, with intricate compositions, mood altering segues and an overall approach that is considerably unique. 'Eclipse' combines speed metal riffing, stark electronic enhancements and the dramatic vocalizations of a twelve person operatic choir, equally split between men and women. 'Star Tales' is immersed in a variety of textures, with its New Age metal feel bordering on electronica much of the time. Varied song arrangements abound, metal being one part of the dynamic the group has created. Much more often, you'll hear the choir singing over the synth work of main man Thanasis Lightbridge, but when the metal sections kick in hard, it's reminiscent of a cross between Metallica and a Star Wars space battle in terms of sound. Highlights include the exploratory 'Weaver's Dance', 'Boxed Daylight' (Both parts to it are fantastic) and the celestial symphony that is 'Back To The Zone'. Dol Ammad certainly reach new frontiers with this creative, inventive work, bring classic and modern sounds together with a sometimes metal edge in order to deliver a style that is all their own. Anyone who can appreciate symphonic arrangements, operatic vocals or experimental metal in general will find this record to be simply out of this world.

        Hardcore Annal Sects

Nirvana's Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic planned on recording an all-acoustic blues album with Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan in the late '80s, but the project never reached fruition.
