I'm sitting here in the dark, at my desk, working on an erotica story. I'm listening to this new album 'Before the Storm' by Reckon With One, a Progressive, melodic metal band that hails from Canada. It’s distracting in the most powerful of ways. So I'm jamming out and think, "Damn... I need to tell some people about this band." You know that moment, right? You hear something that has you completely under its fantastic spell and you have to share it with everyone you talk to! Well since I have your eyes... let me tell you why I've been jamming out all night in my undies. 'Before the Storm' is a crafted album, as only true artists can do. It's also a short album, 4 songs total, and fingers are crossed about the rumors that the album will be extended come true! My favorite song is 'Ancient Judgments'. It’s just got something about it that I can't stop listening to… I think it's the bass line. I'm all about the rhythm section baby! The powerful vocals (think Fates Warning meets Nevermore) and the guitar shredding are truly powerful. Transmission Channel' is an instrumental song with a mind blowing guitar solo. Its one of those songs you hear at a ProgPower concert and the crowd gets quite and just absorbs the melody into their souls! Look, I am kind of a noob to Progressive metal music. I never realized how much I liked the clean vocals with the intricate guitar riffs and bass lines. Where thrash and Death metal bands can cover their lack of talent with break downs and grunting vocals, there is no faking talent in a Prog band... if you can't sing and play your ass off then you have no chance of making it at all. Instead of writing about some hot, big breasted harlot getting banged by a massively hung former secret agent, I'm doing a public service and sharing what I know is awesome with those who might not be aware they are missing out.
