Between The Buried and Me are redefining what it means to be metalcore. 'The Silent Circus' is by no means a run-of-the-mill metalcore album. It blends death/grind and ambient/alternative styles using innovative and at times bizarre elements to complete a sound that is unique to Between the Buried and Me. BTBAM deliver the listener a chaotic, elegant, and dizzying ride through precision, melody and unrelenting aggression.
The Silent Circus opens up in the lion's cage. Fierce, rallied, and chaotic is the lion, Crafty, skilled, and a showman is the Tamer. BTBAM lead the listener next to the Tigers and Bears, each more aggressive and unpredictable, each tamer more precise and elegant. By the time the listener has reached the mainstage, the show has become pure mayhem.
The three rings have erupted into havoc and standing in the fourth, BTBAM controlling everything for its every step. As the listener nears the end of the 53 minutes he is met by a last break in the action, a hole in the big tent. As he passes through, one last strike leaves the listener awestruck and amazed at all he has just witnessed.
"The Silent Circus" has afew weaknesses; however it is an experience in songwriting and crafting. Between the Buried and Me could never be accused of being bland and unoriginal. Improving on their debut Between the Buried and Me have become more dynamic and inventive, shedding a skin of songs structure and adopting a Dillenger Escape Plan mentality.
So, if you like DEP and are waiting for something to awaken a stagnant Metalcore scene, The Silent Circus has raised the bar for heavy music as a whole.
