Pushing the nu metal melting pot theory to its furthest extremity yet on the schizophrenically furious 'Primitive Epic', Bobaflex form a fusion of punk, hip-hop, metal and rock and when enjoined together this broad influence emerges as metal edged, futuristic rap core. Primitive Epic kicks off with the anthemic 'Bobaflex Warriors' which is a hybrid of various styles that should solicit a decent crossover appeal. The band stays on point throughout the quirky 'Midnight Nation'. This song is difficult to insert into a specific genre, its screaming choruses signify an aggressive quality similar to the rougher System of a Down. 'What Was It Like' enters with a reggae themed rap before progressing into a sound that is a cross between Biohazard and 311. The band is good at knowing when to drop the beat back in order to achieve dramatic effect.

Shawn and Martin McCoy both team up on vocals and guitar, trading raps, harmonic lines and aggressive barks with style. 'Medicine' brings vicious spitting as well as kicked back style crooning. The song's jerking rhythms are primal and mosh-inciting, lending toward plenty of head banging in the live forum. What happens when you cross a ballad with Mr. Bungle? You have Bobaflexes 'Tears Drip', a piano based piece with some tuneful guitar noodling that really runs through several stylistic changes as the song progresses toward a sharp, powerful ending refrain.

Especially when you hear the oft kilter rhythms of 'The Predicament' you will notice the influence of those who have tread this road before, but it's a good thing, Bobaflex manage to portray this style with a strong degree of prowess. It's obviously that the band are deeply interested in keeping the listener guessing as to what might happen next, but as one listens to album several times, the parts come together well. This is definitely an album that deserves repeated listening in order to become familiar with some of the music, because there is literally so much going on. Bobaflex are definitely a band to watch!
