Seventeen years ago, most of today's metalcore hotshots were still learning how to read, while Biohazard was charting a course to become one of the most significant acts to combine the styles of hardcore punk rock and heavy metal. As a mainstay in the extreme music scene since the release of their first self-titled record in 1990, Biohazard have consistently been one of the most heavy hitting crossover acts on the scene. 'Means To An End' finds them to be a group that simply won't back down from a challenge. With the massive musical exodus to this style of playing in the 21st Century, Biohazard remain at the top of the pile with this strength-laden, thoroughly bone-jarring album. Evan Seinfeld and Billy Graziadei again team up for an intense vocal combination on tracks like the vicious, heavy handed cut 'The Fire Burns Inside' and crushing sonic force of 'Devotion'. Lyrically, this album is signature Biohazard material, its themes deeply rooted in traditional hardcore principles, a perfect example being the chugging steamroller that is 'Break It Away From Me'. Fueled by typically substantial gang vocals a neck snapping rhythm, this track stands out as one of the most brilliant on the album. Perhaps the spirit of the album could be summed up with the over the top assault of 'Kings Never Die', a fitting statement that rings true. When you hear this remarkably devastating platter of aural aggression, it's likely you'll agree.
