Vocalist Dave Peters does occasionally sound like Phil Anselmo on 'Vendetta', this attribute stemming more so from his choice of vocal envelopes and placement than his vocal tone. When you combine that factor with the plethora of Pantera riffs on the record, you've got to admit that the proverbial apple doesn't necessarily fall that far from the tree. But when folks start to compare this group to Hatebreed, you have to draw a line in the sand. Yes, Throwdown take many of the same influence as Hatebreed. Slayer, Biohazard and of course, Pantera are each evident influences in the overall sound of Throwdown.

You can take this in two different ways. Either Throwdown is yet another in a much-too-long list of imitators, or they're for real, cranking out the music they love with a nod to their metal forefathers. The latter is backed up by the evidence here, with the band executing the eleven tracks here with a sufficient portion of impassioned, ferocious attitude.

One thing is apparent. These guys are heavy as fuck. From the thick roux of the title track to the burly opening tune, 'We Will Rise', Throwdown knows exactly how to deliver hardcore metal with maximum impact. Excellent delivery negates the aspect of unoriginality as the band lurch through pummeling cuts like 'Burn' and 'Shut You Down.' Front to back, 'Vendetta' is a record that will resonate deeply with the moshpit-obsessed. Flurries of fury abound here, see you in the pit!

KISS' Ace Frehley was stopped by security trying to get into a Go-Go's concert. He wasn't on the guestlist, but claimed to be a good friend of Belinda Carlisle.
