Finally one of the best albums of the year has arrived. Why do I make such bold claims? Just take one listen of Converge's "No Heroes" and you will know. Fans have probably already heard this one as Converge fans are a veracious pack that have a passion for this music that is equal to that of the band itself. And with that, most fans have already pinned down that this album is a cross between Jane Doe and You Fail Me, which is arguable and agreeable.

I do hear a little bit of the ferocious Agoraphobic Nosebleed split era in this album as well, especially in the final track "To The Lions" as well as the first five tracks which come in, rip apart the heart, and are done in a little over a minute. Regardless of what this monster of an album can be compared to, the listener hears a spilling of the guts. Tracks such as "Trophy Scars", "Grim Heart" / Black Rose" and "Plagues" are those slower moments on the album which gave way to excellent dynamics. There will always be that dark element on the bands albums and though this release is one of the more anger driven albums, the melancholy will always be there.

It was said by the band that this album was a condemning of the complacency of the art world today. Whether that world is music or actual art of any form, the band have recognized the terrible decline of that world and have rectified it with "No Heroes". More notably on the tracks "Vengeance", "Weight of the World" and the title track, that anger has been brought to a head and put into a beautiful abrasive piece of art.

Converge, as we know, is a band that lives and breathes value in their music with great diction. This diction is their great ability to put out release after release that will leave you with plenty to think about and cherish. "No Heroes" is a release in every sense of the word, one that is shared to serve a great purpose to the band and for those who choose to hear it.

England's 1988 Castle Donnington Monsters of Rock festival featured one of the most enticing heavy metal lineups ever — Guns N' Roses, Megadeth, David Lee Roth, Kiss, and headlined by Iron Maiden (the show holds an attendance record of over 100,000).
