Its hard not to enjoy the juggernaut of power that is Aeon. Their third studio album, "Path of Fire", released by Metal Blade records, is crushing death metal with some progressive blood splattering. Fuck the core-shit, Aeon is blasphemous hammer Satan. Aeon is in the vein of Nile, and Cannibal Corpse. In fact, the only downfall is that it's a little too much like those bands. "Forgiveness Denied" opens the album with flying solo's and blast beats, that don’t stop for the rest of the album. Even the though the formula is consistent, "Path of Fire" has a great deal of variation. "Inheritance", opens with a muddy mid-tempo riff, which makes for some nice dynamics; and a musical interlude right in the center of the album, "Total Kristus Inversus" builds the tension before "Of Fire" goes right back to blast beats and hammer Satan. "Path of Fire" is about 90% riffage and tempo changes, which makes it hard to distinguish many of the songs from each other. "Abomination to God" stands out from the rest of the hammer with some great tremolo picking and blackened melody. The Path of Fire has stunning production, and again, on par with any thing Cannibal and Nile are putting out today, but overall lacks melody and a distinct sound that makes them stand out. Overall, it's nice to see that this Swedish death-metal outfit hasn't succumbed to any trends, and keeps the bludgeoned hammer relentlessly skull crushing. Review by: DFLOx Read Member Reviews |
