Just how heavy is the self-titled debut from Droid? Fucking insanely heavy, simply put. You'll find no sugar-coated choruses or lame stabs at accessibility here – just an unrelenting wall of pure, uncompromising metal that you'll find yourself beating your skull against again and again. Think Fear Factory, but more focused, compact and sans nicey-nice choruses. Droid has no intention of allowing the smallest glimpse of melody into its mechanized, bludgeoning vibe.

Thanks to a face-mangling mix courtesy of Tue Madsen and a penchant for crafting heartlessly angry music, Droid has the musical heft to back their lyrical messages of negativity and retribution. Look toward “God Of Anger,” “Fueled By Hate” or “Vengeance Is Mine” for evidence of this group's overwhelmingly effective sonic brute force. The latter features a guest appearance by Chino Moreno of Deftones fame, easily the heaviest thing Moreno has lent his vox to since the days of “Adrenaline.”

Listen to this record front to back and you'll have absolutely no idea that Munky of Korn fame signed off on this two-ton slab as executive producer. One thing is certain, Droid sounds nothing like what Munky does for his day job. The only hooks you'll find on this album are meathooks, upon which hang virulent testimonies of rage like “For The Following” and “Salt The Graves.” From thick, hammering riffing to relentlessly thumping beats to tortured growls and screams, this record delivers one hell of an aural battering. There's little to complain about here, and enough variation in the band's release of anguish to keep the album interesting and entertaining throughout.

When this one's finished, you'll be asking for the license plate of the Mack truck that just hit you, all fucking twelve of them. Don't underestimate this record, it's that damn immense. Watch for Droid to get Family Values off to its heaviest, most pissed-off start ever in concert theatres this summer.
