Before I got into this review, I would like to thank Amon Amarth. Very few bands are still producing straight forward, no sub genre nonsense, to the point METAL (Kataklysm, Arsis, Birds of Prey etc. for example). Amon Amarth is one of few bands out there that are sticking to their metal guns.
"With Odin On Our Side" the band rows forth with their mythological themes which are in accordance with the band's own ancestry. This theme of ancestral song writing has been with the band since their beginning which has pushed them to write some very inspiring music in the context of heavy music. Some of the lyrics are bound to be humorous to some but one must remember the motivation behind Amon Amarth's song writing which is rooted in their homeland.
As far as the album goes, you can expect Amon Amarth to live up to their standards. Each track is a flowing inclination of riffs which include those powerful tremolo melodies that never tire. There is a momentum to the album that will carry your ears from start to finish and with that always impending epic chorus that completes and compliments each song so nicely. If you are wondering what the metal releases are this year, "With Odin On Our Side" is certainly one.
