This is one of those real pissed off releases. Apiary's debut on Iron Clad Recordings "Lost In Focus" is a reminder of when Deadwater Drowning first hit, just not as technical. Add a little Blood Has Been Shed for the extra heavy breakdowns and you get a harsh hammering disc.
Apiary won't surprise you with their highly violent barks plenty of pit opportunities thrown about. The element of surprise isn't really of any relevance in this release though. You'll be smiling wickedly after the second track leaves you. Not completely grind, or hardcore, or metal for that matter, it's that mashing effect of all of those types that is heard on this album.
Swirling grinding speeds to stop start breaks lead into destructive off beat dance riffs. This act is blatantly hunting for heads and by the end of "Lost In Focus" you have a feeling the band's hatred is not quenched. The technicalities in the music are used for the advantage of making things that much more direct as they share the accessible traits as well. Though they might be towards the ways of technical prowess, they are still not exempt from guilty mosh excitement. This only adds to the appropriate violence of the album. The duration of this album is of good length as well giving you plenty to eat up.
The Red Chord, Premonitions of War and the likes swarm this band's style, very good things put to use in "Lost In Focus". Apiary will only get increasingly enraged from here.
