The follow up to Bleeding Kansas' "1859" is the band's long awaited and well worth it sophomore release "Dead Under Decor". The band continues to explore their broad grooved sound which reflects a range of organic hardcore which isn't so hardcore as well. This organic hardcore can be affiliated with such acts as Converge, Breather Resist, and Engineer. "Dead Under Decor" takes up an approach not unlike their previous release, yet the differences are there. Certainly heavier in a sense, the album shows Bleeding Kansas proving their heaviness through their well thought out song writing. The appeal of Bleeding Kansas is reflected in their ability to throw in massive amounts of rock oriented progressions thrown in with plenty of dissonant arrangements and of course heavy twangy grooves. They know when to slow down in a song, providing a build that usually bursts into a swarm of riffs and scattered drumming which gives this release, like their previous, that great expansive sound. The dynamics of each song are essential to their sound and style that of course is influenced like so many other bands but they make very good use of it. Bleeding Kansas utilize the above qualities that includes that dynamic know how making the release just that interesting. "Death Under Decor" is another plus for Bleeding Kansas, and they still have alot more up their sleeves'. Review by: Dave Huffy Read Member Reviews |
