What are these attempts at clever lyricism in quirky put contexts? Must be Call It Arson because that’s exactly what is going on here, I found them out. In seriousness which I am so known for, or unknown, Call It Arson propose a valiant attempt at a melodic type rock slash type indie combination that calls upon it all of the little nuances that draw people to such music. This band seems to have the sense of how to join the long line of soft rock bands that will wind up being portrayed in some great way on some well known indie site (you know which) and while they have the elements all lined up, it is but a mere inadequacy that they fall short of having an even better release and that inadequacy is that of trying to damn hard. They try hard enough alright but there’s something out of place here. What is out of place is the fact that though this album presents the means to which it could be enjoyed on some level, is covered and smothered by the fact they act like such cornballs while trying to accomplish such songs that do nothing but merely uses precisely placed bad poetry to exemplify their attempts at catchy playing. If you really enjoy laid back softy rock music that hardly rocks, quotable but not so quotable lines you will think clever and profound but are anything but, and yet you’ll still quote them to be cool, Call it Arson will make your dreams come true.
