Coming out of the rainy state, Seattle’s The Fall Of Troy are no strangers to the ways of abrasive yet melodic screamo that they have fine tuned in their own way to create some of the more exciting music of it’s category without being entirely abrasive and at the same time adding all the insanity that the more extreme of original screamo is all about.
“Doppelganger” is the band’s debut album on Equal Vision, and it doesn’t stray far from their previous effort which if you have heard it, it’s clear why they are now signed to Equal Vision as they put forth a fine example of the best catchy but not too accessible cracked out screamo and or emo fan’s must have along the lines of Blood Brothers, Red Knife Lottery, The Jonbenet, and Takaru.
This is an album that has a lot of cocaine induced parts that snap back and forth, darting from screams to riffs to melodies to singing and everywhere in between going back and forth in no particular order making it a fun listen as well as a hyperactive one. A lot of noise elements as some parts in songs seem to fall apart while still having some sort of coherency all the while very sharp screams come in and out of calm to aggravated vocal patterns that compliment the song structuring which is a hard one to follow which is yet another reason this disc is a lot of fun. At times they strip the songs down and next thing you know your blasted with all kinds of random flurries of chopped up off beat guitar work but still somehow they keep it all flowing at whatever pace making it easy to grasp as well, making the whole album just jump out at you.
This release will introduce a lot of you to The Fall of Troy which is a very good thin, because if you are a fan of any of the bands mentioned above and more of the screamo category, then your love for such music stay strong with “Doppelganger”.
