With Motorizer, Motorhead have completely revolutionized their sound and taken rock music into a whole new era. OK, not really. But Motorizer is a great Motorhead album, finding the band still doing what they do better than anyone: play loud, fast rock n' roll.
Fast and loud isn't enough to describe the whole album, however. Just about every song on the album is also very catchy with plenty of melody scattered in the choruses. Some of the songs are actually quite epic with some outstanding musicianship. Lemmy's voice at times seems as if it's fighting to stay alive, but other than that the band sounds just as good as they did when they first started, and, in fact, better and more polished in many ways.
Motorhead have always been the "fun" metal band, for those who classify them as metal, and Motorizer is no exception. The lyrics are all completely absurd and very funny with choruses like "Rock out with your cock out" and the like.
The production is absolutely top notch. Motorhead obviously put some effort into this one, and are not a band who just churn out the same songs time after time. Despite obviously being similar in STYLE to older releases, the songs on Motorizer all have their own distinct personalities and are not merely regurgitated versions of old songs. Some of these, like "When the Eagle Screams" or "Rock Out" could easily find their way into the band's set list for years to come. Assuming that they still have something left in the tank that is.
Now entering their 60's the old boys in Motorhead are seemingly still going as strong as ever, churning out rock that doesn't sound watered down or stale. Pick up this album if you've ever liked a single note Motorhead have played!
