  • A very homoginized Megadeth is what we find on their newest release, Risk. Is it because Dave found God ( he talks to him everyday, you know?) Is it the drumming of former White Lion skin basher Jimmy Degrasso? Or is it the fact that Megadeth, in true Megadeth form, have once again followed in Metallica's footsteps and have decided to become a little less rough around the edges and more radio friendly? I mean, isn't this the same band that brought a glimmer of hope with their last release, Cryptic Writings? Where's the dual guitar attack? Where's the speed? Even Dave's trademark snarl has become a Billy Corganesque whine. Whatever the case may be, Risk is by no means anything to write home, if at all about. Very few bright spots on this one, folks. From the ex-theme song of the box office smash (yea, right,) Universal Soldier ("Crush 'Em,") to the sappy ballad "I'll Be There," Risk is Megadeth at their absolute worst. Kinda wondering if Dave is sitting in his meditative postion chanting "what d'ya mean we aren't metal anymore?" Looks like Dave and Co. are gonna have to tour a LONG time to get outta debt on this one.
