These days it feels like the exception to the rule not to hear a band that doesn't spiral into "BREEEEEEE" territory; nope, The Destroy is clearly a heavy fucking death metal band, sprinkled with some thrash, and splattered with blood, sweat and tears. Perhaps the sweat of anger has rusted the guitar strings, the distortion is filthy, and for the record, that's a good thing. The Destro sound like one of those bands you saw opening up for some major label band, but ended up moshing to more then the headliner. Ya, that's this band. They claim to have an "Old school brutal style" Ya, that's it. The production somewhat reminiscent of Kataklysm with out all the melody. Oh ya, Melody, that's whets missing. It would be nice deviation from all the Down tuned, skull crushing distortion. But don’t forget what's important; a band from Texas is actually playing death metal again. The vocalist seems to enjoy feasting on the metal gore growling and curdle, with the occasional speak-then-kill approach, which sounds genuine in The Destro's case. Someone must have died before recording, because these guys sound fucking pissed. The Destroy have clearly moved beyond many of their contempories who mistake technicality for song-craft. "Persistence of Ignorance" is by far the most mature sign of a great direction for the Destro; speak now, growl later, and scream when the bass drum rumbles the building. Next time you see the Destro dirty and pissed off on the road, pass a message that the Old School Brutal Style will never get old, and give them a high-five for carrying the torch.
