That which transcends the mundane is not necessarily exceptional and occasionally little more than blatantly average. When metal listeners come across a band like Serenity, they might find inspiration in performance, but will doubtlessly forget the experience soon after the fact. Talent, in and of itself, is not a vessel to success. While most will agree that natural selection is a proven fact in the metal world, there are exceptions to that rule and those who are fit often meet the teeth of the wolf for simple fact of blandness. As difficult as it may be to complain about the production, performance and even the songwriting displayed by Serenity on “Words Untold And Dreams Unlived,” nothing here sticks. Great riffs lapse into vague interchanges and somewhere in the midst of it all, you'll discern this record has a blank identity, a featureless face, a lingering aura of promises that were never intended to be made. Three complete listens reveals that for all of the attempts at flair and might this outfit musters, there is little residual desire to submit to prolonged repetition. Is “Words Untold And Dreams Unlived,” creative in it's varied musical wanderings? Sure it is. But with so many bands' works to ponder and so few minutes in the day, some albums just aren't worth the effort to digest.
