As Ill Nino bust out with the title track 'This Is War' it's evident that, well, this is pretty boring stuff. 'One Nation Underground' is often highly manufactured sounding and it's quest to meld thrash metal with emo and Latino music. When the best thing you can think of to say about an album from an established band like Ill Nino is 'Wow! Those drums tones are great', you're probably looking forward to a snoozer and by the time 'What You Deserve' kicks in, you may be thinking that what you deserve is your money back.
Give the band credit for finding their own sound at times, but the listener will uncover more than enough Limp Bizkit, Sepultura and Biohazard nods here to write off half the record as nothing new. However, when the group branch out into more experimental territory, as they do on 'My Resurrection' and 'Everything Is Beautiful', their musical roots blend well with the more familiar sounding material.
Know this, the band puts plenty of heart into the music and as a matter of fact, this element is quite evident. But much of the time, 'One Nation Underground' is lost in a mire of tired influences. Certainly, this is an album that could be considered palatable, but in no way is it either groundbreaking nor is it the best album of the career of Ill Nino.
