  • The Seattle metal outfit Queensryche return under a new label (Atlantic,) with a new release, the timely titled Q2K. And despite the recent departure of the Ryche's main axe slinger/ songwriter Chris De Garmo, this CD seems as if Queensryche is getting back on track, straying away from their Pink Floydish fetishes and excesses audible on The Promised Land and sticking to some familar hard rock territory. For the most part, this 11 track offering, featuring the services of new guiatrist Kelly Gray, is a good showing, with Queensryche's songwriting prowess shining through in such tracks as "Falling Down," "Breakdown," and the Led Zep tinged "When The Rain Comes." While it is obvious that the Seattle quintet aren't going to give us another gem such as Empire or Operation: Mindcrime, Q2K shows us that Queensryche aren't going to go down without a fight. If your a diehard or curious, pick this one up.
