Each GWAR release is always an exciting foray into the depths of depravity, so this live set was met with a great deal of anticipation. The first thing that is immediately noticeable when you pop this disc in is that the guitars are turned up way too loudly, upstaging Odorous Urungus' vocals much of the time. After playing the disc on several different machines, the end result is the same. Perhaps this was intentionally done in order to make the band sound a bit heavier, but GWAR is simply no fun if you cannot sing along and this mix makes doing so extremely difficult. Rotten engineering aside, there are plenty of GWAR favorites on this record, from a smoking rendition of 'Salamanizer' to a suitably aggressive version of the classic 'Ham On The Bone'. It's a good laugh to imagine Osama bin Laden as the lovechild of Urungus as 'Bring Back The Bomb' goes over very well in a concert setting, especially regarding the fact that this album was recorded in 2007, a good year and a half subsequent to the record's release. Only the gruesome metal warriors from Antarctica could accomplish such a feat. A raved up rendition of 'Womb With A View', from the band's 2004 'War Party' release is included here as well, showing that GWAR can still knock the crowd dead (literally) with new material. 'Have You Seen Me' comes off as hilariously offensive as ever, with the group bringing Lacey Peterson out for a guest appearance, which no doubt will have some folks completely up in arms. The celebrity guest appearances don't stop there as The King of Pop joins the group onstage (at least in parody) for a few laughs as well. Odorous pulls his balls out for a different type of guest appearance during the classic 'Crack In The Egg', much to the screaming crowd's delight. Undoubtedly, one of the group's most popular tunes, 'Sick Of You' is always good for a great crowd response and is well represented here. Urungus' commentary betwixt the songs is entertaining, making the listener at times wonder exactly what is going on that they cannot see. Certainly, this live recording will pique fan's interest in seeing the band on this summer's Sounds Of The Underground tour. It's really a pity about the goofy mix, but a live DVD would forgive that small misnomer easily.
