Employing a traditional approach to metal, Falconer bring forth a sound which is both polished and well honed. At times, the band straddle the line between thrash and power metal and manage to mix these styles quite well on the tuneful 'Emotional Skies', which features a massive harmony during the songs chorus that imparts a feeling of camaraderie between brothers in steel. The guitar performances of Stefan Weinerhall and Jimmy Hedlund are distinctly melodic, with the two axemen alternating between bone snapping chugging and highly tuneful scalar work on tracks like 'Purgatory Time' and 'Humanity Overdose'. The guitarists also provide some strong backing vocals that embellish the powerful singing of Kristoffer Gobel quite well. 'I Refuse' stands out as one of the most compelling tracks on 'Grime Vs. Grandeur', it's bold harmonies and thick riffing making for a monstrous metal adventure that bears all of the hallmarks of an instant metal classic. With so many of the groups that play this style of metal coming off as either dated or repetitive, Falconer ultimately stand as neither, bearing an overall sound that while displaying key factors and influences that you might expect from a band of this nature, they always remain consistently intense and exciting. Gobel has a fantastic voice and for evidence of that fact, one must look no further than 'No Tears For Strangers', where he offers a diverse range and a considerable measure of vocal control. 'Grime Vs. Grandeur' can be said to be one of the more powerful releases of it's kind in quite some time, a definite must have for fans of driving, melodic metal.
