Dissection is calling it quits as we all know and it's probably not the worst decision the band has made. 'Reinkaos' shows how this once hoped for reunion didn't deliver as one quite expected, but it was still good to see some classic death thrash re-enter this new century. However, this album makes it seem that the reunion of the band brought with it almost a new band entirely.
The band obviously can't recreate 'Storm of the Light's Bane' so there is nothing to do but carry on with the same evil intent but with an aspect that may leave many uncertain as to whether or not Dissection still has it in them.
The album takes on a slower pace which has its spry moments that come few and far in between and you will find plenty of simplified riff progressions that don't breathe the same fury. This is a worry that soon comes true after the first two tracks as the album unfolds to be this way through and through. Something is missing from this album and I believe it's the timing. When Dissection were in their hay day they were relentless and scary, this day and age finds the band in a different light, and light is usually not the word you want to hear when describing Dissection. Basically, repetition of song structure drives the album into the ground before the halfway mark which will deter a listener and have fans staying with the old catalog.
Metal will always remember the glory days of Dissection, good and bad. 'Reinkaos' is the last vestige for a band that will always have a place in the high throne of metal and though it's not that great of an album, it's still Dissection in some form or another. Back to nostalgia.
