Tapping into the same type of vibe that has garnered bands like Trail Of Tears recognition, Eternal Oath add growls to the type of music that you might hear from a band like Linkin Park or In Flames. You know, Nu-metal. The band can pack quite a punch, as they prove with the beefy opener 'Behind Tomorrow,' but there's something about the Roddy Bottum-style keyboards that seems a bit out of place. Sound-wise, the group also recalls Faith No More on the cyberish 'Death's Call.'

Eternal Oath are a solid band, they come off as well rehearsed and as being a considerably tight group of musicians. Those that think that death growls only belong in more extreme music might shy away from this, but if you consider your metal tastes to be broad, songs like 'In Despair For My Sins', 'On Bitter Wings' and 'Godsend' have much to offer.

As a band that explores the boundaries of metal dynamics, Eternal Oath must be commended. Those that are crying that no artists are doing anything different these days obviously have not heard this record. It's combination of slashing guitars, dramatic effects and varied substance makes this a record that is worth a few spins.
