An album that manages to be everything that Disturbed's previous outing, 'Believe' aspired to be but slightly failed to attain, 'Ten Thousand Fists' recaptures the raw natured, animalistic sounds that were first revealed to fans with 'The Sickness.' All the while, the group is focused and polished, churning out their modern sort of metal with an impassioned determination.

The positive chemistry between the members of the group is undeniable and as the record progresses, listeners will discover that Disturbed have a musical familiarity amongst them that allows the group to take on many sonic personalities. David Draiman shows off his vocal range during 'Pain Redefined', consistently exhibiting control and sheer vocal power, even during a smoother vocal style the singer employs during the bridge of the track.

As a title track, 'Ten Thousand Fists' delivers exactly what listeners love about this band, a solid, strength-laden anthem that will cause heads to bang along with each listen. Draiman's vocals are as commanding as ever, from the metal sledge 'Deify' through the wide-open stomp-fest 'Stricken', a cut that is classic Disturbed, overpowering while intensely melodic and instantly recognizable.

'Sacred Life' brings listeners a combination of Sepultura-type bashing and moderate tempo grooving. Draiman's presence here is nothing short of superb. An excellent mix allows the singer to ride over the crunchy riffs without becoming overbearing. A darker side of the group is thrust into the light on 'Forgiven', a song that will be loved by those who liked the band's first record. A bluesy, lurching riff provides texture here and Dan Donegan's guitar work flows between varied emotions effortlessly.

If any band exemplifies the spirit of the future of modern commercial heavy metal, it is Disturbed. 'Ten Thousand Fists' finds the group to be as headbangingly vital as ever and their place as one of the bands that have defined heavy metal for the new millennium is solidified with this electrifying effort.
