If you're going to label any band as being a cross between metal and hardcore, then War Of Ages are a band that is highly deserving of the tag. The band incorporates the best of metal guitar work and massive hardcore breakdowns like no other band this side of Full Blown Chaos, with substantial chants and supercharged riffing powering rippers like 'Stand Your Ground' and 'Only The Strong Survive.'

Leroy Hamp has a suitable gravel throated hardcore bark which compliments the band's hard edged music quite well, his vicious diatribes during 'Brothers In Arms' espousing true hardcore spirit with much zest.

Axe-slingers take note, you'll find more Iron Maiden inspired riffs here than you can swing a dead mummy at, making this debut of particular interest based upon the fact that Steve Brown and Kang Garnic actually pull these types of things off better than many young hopefuls.

'Battle On' stands out as one of the record's thickest tracks, with a meaty chug providing the backbone for Hamp's wailing on the microphone. The guitar work sticks out as the highlight, with both axe-grinders proving themselves to be more than fluent in the language of metalcore. It's these fantastic guitars that make War Of Ages most appealing, but diehards will gravitate to the group's energy and straight-ahead attack as well.

In the final analysis, this is a really good record that any true HxC fan will find to be more than substantial. So go and get it already.
