An unexpected gothic vibe permeates this outfit's progressive metal sound, with tracks like icebreaker 'Coming Up Roses' being melodically pleasing to the ear and memorable, without question, Sinisthra will be of specific interest to those who are looking for a nice blend of dark ambience and thunderous progressive metal.

Tonally, the guitars are brittle and biting when the distortion is poured on, but during less bombastic verses, the tone rounds out to a smooth, shimmering sound. It would be wrong to assume that Sinisthra are simply another power metal clone, as the atmosphere that they create is much more dreamlike and deviates from the thought-out patterns which at this time plague that particular variety.

If you seek substantiation of the group's originality, look no further than the expansive, soaring 'Ice Cube Sun'. Strong cues which place severe dramatic emphasis are scattered throughout this highly tuneful track. Vocally, there's a good equilibrium between soft yet ardent vocalization and powerful, forceful manifestations.

With the wide-open 'Fearless Under The Falling Sky', the group has crafted a song that should become quite fashionable amongst supporters of progressive music and rock music in general, this track being the closest thing to a hit song you'll come across on 'Last Of The Stories Of Long Past Glories.' A clear-cut keeper, this song unites solid harmonies with an ear catching hook more than successfully.

Listen for Sinisthra's name to be popping up a great deal amongst metal circles in the approaching year.
