Bullet for My Valentine hit the ground running in 2004 by signing with BMG/Sony and then releasing 'The Poison' in 2005. The bands metalcore debut earned them a number 2 spot on the Top Heatseekers Chart, and a number13 spot on the US Mainstream Rock chart with the single 'All These Things I Hate'. Now the UK natives are back with their second album 'Scream, Aim, Fire', an album that shows the relatively young bands development from typical metalcore to a more thrash inspired outfit.

The title track, and opener for 'Scream, Aim, Fire', is a fast paced, prog-thrash tune with lots of drum fills, guitar squeals and James Hetfield-esque vocals. This is intriguing because songs like 'Tears don't Fall' from B4MV's previous album 'The Poison' had more radio friendly hooks and screamo inspired songs. B4MV lets it be known immediately that 'Scream, Aim, Fire' will be mark a new direction for the band. In fact, all the songs on 'Scream, Aim, Fire' are a little faster and heavier than the bands previous material. The typical metalcore song writing style is still firmly intact however. It boils down to old Metallica type riffs played with a more modern, metalcore song structure, which means adding a couple slow bridges and anthem-like choruses. With songs like 'Waking the Demon' and 'Eye of the Storm' this is especially evident. 'Say Goodbye' is the touchy-feely ballad of the album and, given the bands new direction, it comes off a bit 80's metal, but there is nothing wrong with 80's metal in many peoples opinion.

It seems a lot of very young 80's metal fans grew up and formed bands, like Trivium, Children of Bodom, etc. Bullet for My Valentine is another fine example of this, maybe not the most original, but undoubtedly talented. 'Scream, Aim, Fire' is definitely worth a listen and I guarantee you will seeing even bigger things from these guys in the near future.
