I've been waiting for this slab of Canadian craziness since the band's first release on Galy Records. I have an insatiable appetite for technical bands, and particularly tech death metal bands from Canada. Don't you feel the same?

Regardless if you do or not Beneath The Massacre keep up the good reputation of the great north with their debut full length on Prosthetic, "The Mechanics of Dysfunction". 10 tracks of absolute mind numbing brutal death metal topped off with the occasional speedy breakdown to add extra devastation. The way the band goes from riff to arpeggio sweep to riff to breakdown to whatever the hell else they can throw at you makes this release electric. Along with all the other calculable technicalities, this album is absolutely ridiculous (in the good musicianship way).

One minute you are being pummeled by extreme tempos laced with dizzying riffs that will switch direction on you every other second, then you get one of those delightful breakdowns that encourages murder on all levels. The breakdowns definitely add some aspect of accessibility to the band's chaos and will catch the ear of those waiting to throw. But the band does not rely on these breakdowns nor does it get carried away with such simplicity, they use them as the breathing room in a song that allows everyone to enjoy the madness.

Prosthetic knows what's up and as more extreme talent like Beneath the Massacre is pushed into your heads, the further away from painful mediocrity we will go.
