Austria's Devanic prove themselves to be one of the most promising unsigned Gothenburg influenced acts in the world with this highly impressive recording. Devanic have a sound that is very much in the vein of the type of material In Flames and Soilwork have previously produced, this feeling being especially reminiscent during 'Command Me', a track that features the growling vocals of Andreas Danzer and catchy melodic guitar playing courtesy of Christian Novak and Nikolaus Vuckovic.

The band employ a great deal of acoustic nuances in their playing, noticeably evident on 'I Am.', which can certainly be compared to the type of vibe that In Flames were going for on their first few records, without veering from a sound that is tight and well-polished, yet remaining considerably worthy of some whiplash inducing headbanging. The project was laid down at Vienna's Immortal Arts Studio by guitarist Vuckovic, and his ear for engineering is apparent here, although the overall post production could have been made a bit hotter in order to give the disc more punch.

It's obvious that Devanic are a well rehearsed ensemble, the performances are dead-on during tracks like 'Reborn Again' and 'Ignorance', and the precision in the band's execution is highly impressive, making the group's music all the more listenable. The bottom line is that Devanic have shown with this release to be an outstanding ensemble that is capable of providing a new twist on the style that the aforementioned acts have pioneered and if you consider yourself to be any type of fan of this sort of metal, this is a release that is more than deserving of your attention.
