Tracklist

Slick production and downy performances rest within the digits of 32 Leaves' 'Welcome To The Fall', an album that will connect with fans of Chevelle and their ilk. 'Sudden Change' inaugurates this record with a laid-back vibe that is commercially oriented and highly memorable before segueing into the album's ringer, 'Blood On My Hands', a cut which is certainly deserving of airplay on insert your favorite rock radio station here. No less than three of the band members are credited with programming on this disc, which strikes this reviewer as quite odd as their efforts are barely audible on the record. Greg Norris has a smooth, accessible voice that's easy to sing along with and it's his performance that provides the soul of the band with good efforts on each of the album's songs. Some may balk at the overtly manufactured, predictable nature of 'Never Even There', a track which casts 32 Leaves as Crossfade's little bro. But predictability aside, this track still scores well for its sense of harmony and intriguing hook. The band branches out on 'Wide Awake', incorporating a bit more heft into the song's introduction before exploring the same deep waters sailed by A Perfect Circle. More than anything, this record is a hook-fest, with great care taken to make these songs as memorable and singable as possible and that trait is carried throughout the record. The album's final cut digs into the aforementioned programming, sounds that can be accomplished just as easily with instruments and basic outboard effects, but the sounds are ear-catching nonetheless, while Norris' vocals shimmer above a riff that pays a bit of homage to Robert Smith. A fluid album with the potential to produce several hits, 'Welcome To The Fall' gives the listener plenty to wrap their ears around, and does so in a fairly interesting manner. Watch for this band to receive some major spins in the months to come.

According to unsubstantiated legend, Nirvana's Kurt Cobain once approached Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder in a Seattle bar and told Vedder he hated everything Pearl Jam and its fans stood for. The next time he saw Vedder, he retracted half of the comment, since they shared the same fanbase.
