Spitalfield produce edgy post-hardcore songs with a strong emphasis on vocal harmony and progressive, driving riffing that makes for a fruitful pairing. The band writes songs that are fairly easy on the ears and tracks like Texa$ With A Dollar Sign and Gold Dust vs. State Of Illinois, despite their quirky names, will have you singing right along by the second spin. Basically, this group is a college radio station Program Director's wet dream, with just enough hooks and vocal harmonies to maintain a grounded pop sensibility, while keeping things mixed up enough instrumentally to remain artistically progressive and slightly dangerous. The record strikes you as a summertime type of album, somewhere in the tuneful compositions within, you'll find the band to exude an energy that at its core relays a genuinely fun vibe. Tampa Bum Blues is not the blues at all, but an infectious modern rock track that is steeped in an atmosphere that is refreshingly positive while hinting at recklessness. Certainly not for those who crave extra doses of testosterone, but nevertheless, Stop Doing Bad Things is a vibrant, enticing record that will please many a fan with their ear tuned to their local college station.
