A blasting, deafening roar of an album, 'Remains Of The Gods' shows Light This City to be a group that is capable of letting loose pure sonic destruction, with frontwoman Laura Nichol leading the band through a ferocious onslaught. Armed with a suitable measure of aggression, these three purveyors of pummeling metal thunder rip through ten crushing tracks here as Light This City show that they are most assuredly a force to be reckoned with. It is very rare that you will hear an individual that displays so much prowess on both the drums and the guitars as Ben Murray, who single-handedly provides half of the creative effort here, conjuring up thrashy rhythms and skull stomping beats in an admirable display of double duty. Nichol is a savage vocalist, rivaling Arch Enemy's Angela Gossow in intensity, her scratchy growl giving tracks like 'Obituary' and 'The Hunt' a savageness that is speaker tearing in its brute forcefulness. You will discover some highly capable NWOBHM style licks in 'A Guardian In A Passerby' that resonate with a crisp, metal edge. Light This City shine on the jarring 'Letter To My Abuser', while the group takes a more melodic approach on the intensely harmonic 'Fractured By The Fall', where Nichol delivers some of her most venomous vocals of the record. This band is hitting the scene in a major way , when you hear this excellent album of scathing sonic indictments, you will know exactly why.
