"Shadows In The Light" is impeccable. Immolation still has the knack for writing death metal that hasn't soured or staled over the years. This band continually manages to put out release after release that pummels the mind. Musically these guys are still on top of their game which is more than you can say about alot of other long standing death metal acts. Cult followers of this band know this already, and any people new to Immolation should do themselves a favor and check out their entire catalog. The best thing is, you can start anywhere in the band's catalog, past or present, and still be floored.

"Shadows In The Light" is what you would expect from Immolation, that is, that doomy sounding tank trampling sound filled with excellent hooks and riffs that make every release exciting. This review will quickly turn into an all around appraisal for this band's ability to still kick ass, not that it hasn't already and not that is a bad thing.

One must observe the plethora of death metal acts out there and consider which of those still keep their integrity intact; very few come to mind right? Immolation comes to mind quickly and they continuously leave their mark with every new release.

Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello came up with the riff for "Killing in the Name" while showing one of his guitar students Drop D tuning.
