Having given fans a small taste of their comeback album with the 'Sour Times' EP released earlier this year can in no way prepare doom fans for that which they will hear on this massive, stellar release. The boys in Confessor are back in a big way, creating their patented math-doom with an even larger degree of weighty melancholy than ever before. The slithering, eerie melodies 'Wigstand' are drenched in a somber emotion that rivals that of St Vitus as well as Trouble.

What really stands out on this record? Try the masterful vocals, the complex, mechanical drum strikes or the crunching tone of the band's foreboding guitar riffs for starters. Confessor twists melodies into a variety of sonic contortions with an amazing control. A badass, fretboard burning solo brings complete shred to the doom sound, a factor that many bands of the type often cannot claim. Of course, many hardcore Confessor listeners have already heard the appropriately gloomy 'Sour Times', and it is one of the band's best songs ever, without a doubt. As vocalist Scott Jefferys lays a drawn-out, resonating collage of vociferations, the band meets metal and molasses, dark melody and brilliant harmonic overtones.

'Blueprint Soul' is almost like a slower version of Alice In Chains circa 'Facelift', with Jeffreys' lung power piercing through the syrupy and appropriately bottom heavy mix. Meanwhile, 'Cross The Bar' inverts Sabbath riffs and steps directly into the future of the entire doom genre.

A killer cover and great package complete what has to be the most important release in the history of Season Of Mist.

'Unraveled' is an amazing bludgeoning that has the potential to make a significant impact on the entire music style that these heavy muthas purvey for a good long while.

aw, this one is heavy as hell. I bought it a couple of days ago. This band is better than they were in the 90s

Kirk Hammett of Metallica was vacationing in Cabo San Lucas and walked into Cabo Wabo while the Mexican band Vitamin T was playing a cover of 'Until It Sleeps'. Hammett walked over and grabbed a guitar and jammed along with the band.
